Cells / Symbol Scale Issues in MicroStation

February 6, 2009 · Print This Article

Problem

Cells / Symbols come in to MicroStation 25.4 times larger than they should, or much smaller than they should.

Solution

This is a common problem with the way MicroStation handles our DWG files. Have the user run through this process to set the DWG scale in MicroStation:

  1. Make sure MicroStation is closed
  2. Browse to: C:\Program Files\Bentley\home\prefs\dwgdata\ and rename the “dwgsettings.rsc” file to “dwgsettings.rsc.old”.
  3. Launch MicroStation -> Click File -> Open -> Browse to: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SteelcaseFSL\Utils\ (or C:\ProgramData\SteelcaseFSL\utils\ for Vista users)
  4. Select the TS3051_2D.dwg file (this will open the dwg file with a window asking to resize the drawing units)
  5. Change it to “Inches” and continue (this creates a new “dwgsettings” file which should contain the necessary information to place FSL symbols into MicroStation with the correct scale)
  6. Close and re-launch MicroStation and try the FSL again!

If you continue to experience scale issues with certain symbols, try those in a brand new MicroStation drawing.
